About Us

OUR HISTORY – WHO WE ARE

In 1984, a group of concerned citizens came together around a common goal asking, “How can we best help our community’s senior citizens?”.  They called themselves the “Quality of Life Committee” and, with the support and sponsorship of the Village of Fairport, the Town of Perinton and Perinton Churches Housing, Inc., they incorporated as the Fairport/Perinton Senior Living Council, Inc.(SLC) in 1987.  In 1988, SLC was granted charitable status as a 501(c)(3) organization.  The all-volunteer Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each of the three sponsors. They appoint and then elect one representative from each to the Board.  The Board then nominates and elects at large members to sit on the Board.

OUR MISSION AND OUR VISION

OUR MISSION is to improve the quality of life for the senior citizens of Fairport and Perinton so that they may remain independent for as long as is appropriate and possible.  OUR VISION is to meet these goals by providing affordable housing, transportation, care connections and additional services, such as facilitating partnerships with other community organizations, increasing our community’s awareness of services offered and providing a central resource for eldercare in Fairport and Perinton.

WHAT WE DO

The Senior Living Council (SLC) owns a low-to-moderate income housing complex, Rose Hollow, at 29 Durant Place in the Village of Fairport.

The SLC partners with the Fairport Baptist Homes Community Ministries, Inc. to deliver the services of Senior Options for Independence (SOFI) Care Connection and Transportation programs for seniors.

The SLC also operates a not-for-profit thrift store in Fairport to support these SOFI programs.
The store, located in the Fairport Village Landing, is called Craft Bits & Pieces (CB&P).  Three paid managers oversee the store’s operation and its all-volunteers staff.   The Donation Station, also located in the Village Landing, accepts donated craft materials of all kinds.  Volunteers sort and price the items for resale.  (For more information about CB&P, please go to their page.)
